Olympic rower bows out of sport with Freshfields training contract

ANOTHER sporting star is making their way to the City, after Olympic rowing champion Sophie Hosking said yesterday she was hanging up her blades in favour of a career with Magic Circle law firm Freshfields.

Hosking won gold with Kat Copeland in the women’s lightweight double sculls at London 2012. But she isn’t the first professional rower to jump ship for a legal job. Team GB’s Tom Solesbury is now an employment solicitor at Hamlins.

Hosking, who is about to start studying for her legal qualification, told The Capitalist that “having to use my brain will take some getting used to” but she hopes to be “one of the crowd” when she joins the firm.

So any danger of seeing a Freshfields boat exercising on the Thames? What with a trainee’s work load it might be “logistically hard” she admitted.
