The big media story of the week for sponsors was based around the imminent opening of the largest McDonald’s in the world. The restaurant will be able to seat 5,000 people and they expect that it will serve 1.7m people during the Olympics. The announcement of the opening garnered significant interest across online media, with many blogs and news articles being re-tweeted hundreds of times.
