Nine years on, singles downloads top one billion

MORE than 1bn singles have been downloaded in the UK since 2004, when Apple brought music downloads to the masses with its iTunes service, music body the BPI said yesterday. 3.7m singles are now downloaded a week, compared to 1.5m in 2007 and just 500,000 in 2005. Adele’s Someone Like You topped total sales with 1.46m downloads, followed shortly by Moves Like Jagger by Maroon5 (pictured) and Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know.
