NEWS International is in talks to occupy an entire seventeen-storey building at the foot of London’s Shard skyscraper.
The owner of The Sun and The Times is understood to be considering a move to the 430,000 square foot building called The Place which, like the Shard, is being developed by Sellar Property group and the State of Qatar.
The move would provide a significant boost to London’s office lettings market, which is recovering from years of subdued demand after companies shelved plans to move office due to the economic crisis.
Rupert Murdoch’s newspaper empire are currently letting two buildings at Thomas More Square near Tower Hill after moving from the Wapping fortress, which was sold to housebuilder Berkeley Group last year.
News International would not comment on talks but said the company’s lease at Thomas More Square expired next year and it was weighing its options.
