New Halfords boss is breath of fresh air on results day

WHO said that City chief executives had become hardened and cynical? The Capitalist hears that the new young Halford boss Matt Davies breathed a breath of refreshingly jovial air into yesterday’s results conference.

Davies was told by the firm’s finance director that four journalists who couldn’t be there in person had dialled in and were on the call. The former Pets at Home boss turned around to bid them a cheery “hello” but when no reply came he had to be politely reminded by staff that they were on listen-only mode.

Luckily Davies saw the funny side – and with a crucial turnaround plan on the table to occupy him for the forseeable future, here’s hoping he maintains his upbeat outlook.
