New bus boss questions HS2

THE INCOMING head of Stagecoach has raised questions about the wisdom of the planned High Speed Two (HS2) rail link between London and the north of England.

Martin Griffiths, who this week takes over from Sir Brian Souter as chief excutive, told the Sunday Telegraph: “We need to be careful it’s not being engineering-led to such an extent that we create this very expensive railway but put it in the wrong place.”

He also called on the government to press on with improvements to Waterloo station, which serves his firm’s South West Trains route.
