Nelson Mandela in critical condition

FORMER South African president Nelson Mandela, who has been in hospital for several weeks with a recurring respiratory infection, is now in “critical” condition, a government statement said last night. The statement added that doctors were doing everything they could for the 94-year-old anti-apartheid hero. Mandela, who became South Africa's first black president in 1994, was rushed to a Pretoria hospital early on 8 June with a recurring respiratory infection.
