Nasri back in six weeks, says Wenger

ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger expects Samir Nasri to make a swift recovery from a broken leg after learning that the injury is not as bad as first feared.

Midfielder Nasri was initially ruled out for up to three months after suffering a fractured fibula during training on Tuesday.

But X-rays have revealed that there are no complications to the France midfielder’s injury and Wenger expects him to heal in half that time.

“Unfortunately he fractured his fibula and he will be out for six weeks,” said Wenger.

“He accidentally nicked the ball away from somebody having a shot on goal. Unfortunately he got kicked and broke his fibula. It’s not a complicated one, it’s a simple one but it will take six weeks to heal.”

Although the injury depletes his options, Wenger has a number of players who can cover Nasri’s usual position on the left of midfield.

Andrey Arshavin played there frequently after joining in January, young forward Carlos Vela has also featured on the wing and Tomas Rosicky, who has just returned from an 18-month injury lay-off, was Wenger’s preferred left midfielder before his knee trouble.

Forward Emmanuel Adebayor left for Manchester City in a £25m deal last weekend, but Croatian striker Eduardo is on his way back to fitness following another ankle operation in May, and Wenger played down the need for new signings.

“The options are Tomas Rosicky, who is back, and in those two months Eduardo will be back as well,” he added, speaking at the club’s pre-season camp in Austria. “We do have offensive options but we don’t want to lose important players before the season starts.”

One player who Wenger does consider disposable is error-prone central defender Philippe Senderos, who spent last season on loan at AC Milan.

“It’s open,” Wenger said. “At the moment he is looking for solutions. He has many opportunities but he has to decide on his future.”
