Murray suffers shock defeat

WORLD No2 Andy Murray suffered a shock straight sets defeat to Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis in the Rogers Cup third round yesterday.

Playing in his first tournament since winning Wimbledon, Murray lost 6-4, 6-3 to the player ranked 38th in the world, ending the Briton’s 13-match winning streak.

Gulbis said: “I am excited because I have been ranked No150 coming into this year. I have been struggling and been up and down and I’m slowly and surely getting back to where I belong.
