MANCHESTER United boss David Moyes has revealed he has unlimited funds to boost his squad this summer, after the Scot lost his first game in charge over the weekend.
Moyes’ reign began with a surprise 1-0 defeat in Thailand to a Singha All-Star XI on Saturday.
Yet Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement is hopeful of recruiting top talent.
“Isn’t it great that the club says ‘There’s no budget here, you go get who you want to get, just go and do it’?” Moyes said, adding that he has his eyes open for a midfielder.
“We are looking at the best players. I do think it’s important that we show people we are carrying on the traditions and trying to take the club forward.”
One player not joining United this summer is midfielder Thiago Alcantara, after Bayern Munich agreed a fee of £21.6m to sign the Spain star from Barcelona.
Meanwhile, new Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini also lost his first game in charge yesterday, with South African side Supersport United triumphing 2-0.
Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski were among the goalscorers, while Olivier Giroud bagged a brace, as Arsenal began their Asian tour with a win, thrashing an Indonesia Dream Team 7-0 in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Everton lost 2-1 to Austria Vienna and Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Bochum.
