Morrisons in online push as profits slump

SUPERMARKET Morrisons is to launch an online offering next year, it confirmed this morning, as annual profits fell.

Unlike rivals Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury’s, Morrisons does not sell food online.

The supermarket said today that it was in talks with online grocer Ocado that could lead to a partnership deal.

The online push comes as Morrisons posted a four per cent drop in underlying annual pre-tax profit to £901m, down from £935m in 2011.

Like-for-like sales excluding fuel fell 2.1 per cent over the year.
