Metal industry free from CCL tax

The ceramics and steel making industries got a helping hand from the chancellor yesterday as he announced in the Budget that they would be exempt from the climate change levy on energy costs from April 2014. It comes as a welcome move to Tristram Hunt, the MP for Stoke-on-Trent Central, who has campaigned for more help for traditional industry and was the driving force behind the tax exemption for “energy used in metallurgical and mineralogical processes”. Draft legislation will be published in the Autumn Statement.
