THE LONDON Overground will be able to carry a quarter more passengers next year after Transport for London (TfL) placed an order yesterday for 57 new carriages.

TfL said the new carriages, which will be delivered by Bombardier and cost £88m, will be introduced on more popular parts of the Overground network from late 2014, starting with the East London Line.

The Overground network carried 125m passengers last year.
