Lay of the day

Star Sports owner Ben Keith picks out one horse he’s happy to lay each day

THINGS kick off this afternoon with the Triumph Hurdle and it looks a shootout between three horses: OUR CONOR, Rolling Star and Far West.

Our favourite is Our Conor and we’re happy to take him on at 3/1. The Irish have a poor record in this race – they haven’t won it since 1997 – and although he was impressive at Leopardstown I’m not sure if he’s going to have enough stamina over this stiffer course.

He was a winner over seven furlongs on the flat and I can see him travelling strongly before getting outstayed close home.

The other reason to take him on is that all his form is on soft ground. Yes, there is rain forecast today, but I’m not sure there will be enough to have a big effect.

Rolling Star looked impressive here last time when beating Irish Saint, while Far West has been consistent all season.

The Gold Cup is a cracking contest and Bobs Worth looks to have a favourite’s chance. He is unbeaten at Cheltenham and although he’s had a break I still think he will be hard to beat.

It’s been a wonderful Festival and if you’re coming today, please drop by and see us at Pitch 3 in Tattersalls. Call us on 08000 521 321 or visit
