Lay of the day

Star Sports owner Ben Keith picks out one horse he’s happy to lay each day

THE feature race this afternoon is the Ladbrokes World Hurdle and with no Big Buck’s the only certainly this year is that we are going to get a new name on the trophy.

I’m sure the money will come for the Nicky Henderson-trained OSCAR WHISKY and we are more than happy to lay him. He apparently proved he stayed the three mile trip at Cheltenham on Trials Day in a race he didn’t actually win and he finished legless in this 12 months ago!

He is without doubt a better horse over two and a half miles and, even though he is going to be ridden more aggressively, I just think he’ll be running on empty again up that famous Cheltenham hill.

As for today’s hotpot Dynaste, I’d have been far more happy laying David Pipe’s runner in yesterday’s RSA chase over three miles than I am in today’s Jewson Novices’ Chase. However, every horse has a price and if he gets shorter than the 7/4 currently on offer I’m happy to stand him too.
