THE HEAD of Marks & Spencer's lingerie department has quit the high street retailer just three months after joining.
Former Victoria’s Secret chief executive Janie Schaffer was brought in as M&S’s director of lingerie and beauty at the start of the year but the company yesterday announced she would be leaving.
M&S did not give a reason for her departure, nor did the firm announce a replacement. Her departure comes after the retailer posted a seventh consecutive fall in clothing sales last week.
Schaffer, heralded as “The Knicker Queen” for her work at Victoria’s Secret and Knickerbox, was announced as the replacement for Frances Russell in November, with Russell moving up to lead the womenswear division.
Her short tenure was marred by suggestions that she was not given the freedom to overhaul the division in the way Schaffer would have liked.
