ITALIAN retail sales fell in April, the eight consecutive monthly decline, according to official data released today.

Sales fell 0.1 per cent month-on-month and 2.9 per cent year-on-year, as the troubled Eurozone economy continues to experience a drastic slump in consumer spending.

Italy has been in recession since the middle of 2011 and analysts expect GDP to fall around 1.8 per cent this year.
