ISPs ordered to block file sharing

Internet service providers (ISPs) were ordered to block access to file sharing websites yesterday as a crackdown on illegal downloads intensified. The High Court granted record labels an order to take measures against ISP users to block access to websites offering links to pirated material. The block, which follows a similar ruling involving The Pirate Bay last year, comes months after the British Phonographic Industry asked ISPs to block access to Kickass Torrents, H33T and Fenopy. The decision will come as a boost to record labels, which have been hit by the rise of illegal downloading, though music sales rose for the first time in 13 years in 2012.
