Irish retail sales fall further

Irish retail sales volumes fell 0.1 per cent in May and 2.1 per cent on the year, Central Statistics Office figures showed yesterday. Final figures for April showed a monthly fall of 0.8 per cent and an annual drop of 1.8 per cent – an improvement on earlier data that showed falls of 1.5 per cent and 2.7 per cent respectively. Economists expect retail sales to fall by around 2.4 per cent this year.
