Irish fight back as Welsh crash out of LV= Cup

LONDON Irish produced a remarkable second-half turnaround to gain revenge over Sale Sharks yesterday with a 34-28 bonus-point win in the LV= Cup.

Matt Garvey was the hero, crossing twice for the Exiles as George Skivington and Shane Geraghty also went over for the home side.

London Welsh, however, were put to the sword by Exeter Chiefs at the Kassam Stadium, Jack Nowell and Nic Sestaret both crossing for doubles in a 42-15 win.

A last-gasp Ben Botica try saved Harlequins in their 31-30 win over Northampton on Saturday. Trailing 30-24 in the final minute, Botica barged under the posts before slotting his conversion to give Quins the victory.

On Friday Saracens served notice of their strength in depth as they ran riot with a bonus-point 38-21 win against perennial rivals Leicester in their LV= Cup opener.

London Wasps slipped to a narrow 22-17 defeat to head coach Dai Young’s former side Cardiff Blues, thanks to a late Ceri Sweeney try.
