JOCKEY JT McNamara’s condition has improved a week after a fall at the Cheltenham Festival saw him placed in an induced coma.

The Irish amateur remained in intensive care at a Bristol hospital last night, but was said to be stable and his level of sedation has been reduced.

A statement issued by racing medics on behalf of McNamara’s family added: “Whilst his vertebral damage remains serious, he has not suffered a brain injury.”

The 37-year-old had difficulty breathing after falling from David Pipe-trained Matuhi at the first fence of the Byrne Group Plate on the second day of last week’s meeting.
