PRICES in Britain’s shops rose just one per cent in July compared to the previous year, dragged down by the brakes being hit on food inflation.

Food prices increased 3.1 per cent annualised in July, the British Retail Consortium announced this morning, a less severe rise than the 3.5 per cent recorded in June.

Overall price inflation edged down from 1.1 per cent in June, with the price of non-food items falling 0.3 per cent compared to July last year.
