IAG splashes out $6bn on planes

British Airways parent IAG yesterday placed an order for 18 new Airbus planes worth $6bn (£3.9bn) at list prices, and said it was in further talks with Airbus and Boeing to secure more planes for its Iberia unit. The deal includes a $1.6bn order for Rolls-Royce’s Trent XWB engines to use in the planes, and is in addition to an existing option to buy 18 Airbus aircraft. Boeing has said it continues to see IAG as an important customer and sources say there is a good chance BA will buy any future version of the twin-engined 777.
