HOW THEY RATED ENGLAND
David James (6)
Made two crucial first-half saves but perhaps could have done better with Muller’s first goal.
Glen Johnson (6)
Drifted in and out of the game and didn’t get forward enough to give England width.
John Terry (4)
Had a shocker. His lack of pace was a liability for England and had a poor understanding with Upson.
Matthew Upson (5)
Gets an extra mark for the goal but, like Terry, was all over the place as Germany waltzed through them.
Ashley Cole (6)
Started the game well, but, like Johnson, didn’t get forward anywhere near as much as he should.
James Milner (5)
Looked a little lost at times and showed a lack of pace. Quality on the ball was below-par also.
Frank Lampard (6)
Unlucky not to score twice, but was left chasing shadows as we failed to seize control of the midfield.
Gareth Barry (5)
Failed in his brief to man-mark Ozil and looked lost as Germany showed him how to keep the ball.
Steven Gerrard (5)
Showed poor quality on the ball, just shooting from distance with little control.
Wayne Rooney (4)
An absolute shadow of his former self as he has been all tournament. Risked when he’s clearly not fit.
Jermain Defoe (5)
Failed to get any understanding with Rooney or midfield runners. Drifted out of the game.
Substitutes
J Cole (Milner, 63) 5, Heskey (Defoe, 71) 4, Wright-Phillips (Johnson, 86) 5
Fabio Capello (3)
Poor selection, poor substitutions and lacked any kind of a game plan. Has been found out this World Cup.
