THE WEALTH of the world’s richest people rebounded last year, surging by ten per cent to a new record of $46.2 trillion (£29.5 trillion), a report out yesterday showed.
Well heeled investors – so-called high net worth individuals – numbered 12m people globally last year, with the UK population of high net worths rising 5.4 per cent to 465,000 in 2012.
The reversal in fortunes follows a dip in 2011 when the wealth of high net worths fell 1.7 per cent.
The poll, by Capgemini and RBC Wealth Management, also reveals North America reclaimed its position as the place with the most wealthy investors, replacing last year’s top region Asia-Pacific.
“North America’s lead in both population and wealth is likely to be eclipsed again in the future by Asia-Pacific,” Jean Lassignardie, chief sales and marketing officer at Capgemini, said.
The UK is the fifth biggest market globally for high net worth individuals, with a combined fortune of $1.6 trillion
