Hewlett-Packard chairman Lane walks out

HEWLETT-Packard chairman Raymond Lane abruptly resigned last night just two weeks after a shareholder revolt saw him narrowly win reelection at the PC maker’s annual meeting with just 58.8 per cent of shareholder votes.

Lane, who has come under fire for his role in HP’s acquisition of software firm Autonomy, will be replaced on an interim basis by director and activist investor Ralph Whitworth until a permanent replacement is found.
