Hargreaves Lansdown founder joins billionaires’ list

STEPHEN Lansdown has joined his business partner Peter Hargreaves on the Forbes list of billionaires this year, crossing the threshold into the illustrious club in the same year he stepped down from the asset manager that he founded in 1981.

Lansdown, who retired in November after more than 30 years at the firm, has benefited from a 67 per cent rise in Hargreaves Lansdown shares in the last year. Forbes – which released its annual roster of the world’s richest people yesterday – estimates the 60 year-old Bristol City fan’s fortune at $1.5bn.

The latest ranking painted a less rosy picture for Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who fell from 35th place last year to 66th after $4.2bn was wiped off his overall wealth.

This year’s list includes a total of 1,426 billionaires worldwide, including 210 new entrants.
