BRITAIN’S largest bakery chain Greggs yesterday blamed “record levels of rainfall” after like-for-like sales for the first half of 2012 fell 2.4 per cent.

The group pushed ahead with 33 store openings during the period, pushing total sales 4.5 per cent higher to £350m in the six months to 30 June. Pre-tax profit fell 4.5 per cent to £16.5m.
