Greencore heralds profit rise

Irish sandwich giant Greencore has forecast a rise in profits this year thanks to improving UK consumer sentiment and a strong debut in the US market. The group, which also makes ready meals under the Weight Watchers brand, said operating profits had risen when the effects of currency changes are factored out. In a trading update it said UK chilled foods volumes rose by 4.4 per cent in the four months to July, compared to the same period last year. Convenience food sales at its recently acquired US?arm have seen 43 per cent sales growth.
