Granddaughter praised as heir to Iron Lady

BARONESS Thatcher’s 19-year-old granddaughter Amanda was yesterday praised for her strong performance as she read a lesson at her grandmother’s funeral.

Undaunted by the millions watching around the world, she later told Conservative MP Rob Wilson that her public speaking ability was “in the blood”.

The US college student lives with her mother and her 24-year-old brother Michael in Dallas, Texas.

Their parents, Mark and Diane, divorced in 2005.

Amanda’s central role in the ceremony was at the express wish of her grandmother.

Lady Thatcher has one final present for her descendents – a Baronetcy for her grandson Michael.

When she left office the former Prime Minister created the first such hereditary title since 1964 for her husband Denis, meaning there will be a Sir Thatcher for generations to come.
