THE UK Government’s roll-out of superfast broadband to rural areas is two years behind schedule, according to a report by the National Audit Office.

Only nine out of 44 local projects are expected to be completed by the May 2015 deadline.

There is also less competition than anticipated, with telecoms firm BT receiving £1.2bn of public money.

Last month the government extended the deadline to December 2016.
