Government publishes spending data
THE government is to publish a list of its biggest suppliers today as it launches its drive to make public spending more accountable.
Cabinet Office minister, Francis Maude, will publish the spending data later this morning which shows all departmental spending above £25,000.
Among the government’s biggest suppliers are the Young People’s Learning Agency, established in April to provide support for training and education to all 16 to 19 year-olds in England, Partnerships for Schools and the Greater London Authority.
The data published covers government spending over the last six months and the government expects that charities alongside access to information groups will use it to help the public understand where money is being spent.
The government has also created an open access website to give the public and computer programme developers easy access to the data from all levels of government.
The Taxpayers Alliance welcomed the move. A?spokesman said: “There is lots of excellent information that will make it easier for us to hold the government to account for its spending activities”
