GOAL-LINE technology will be in place at all Premier League grounds from next season after clubs voted to approve a system designed by Hawk-Eye, which already provides technology for tennis and cricket.

A majority of top-flight chairmen also rubber-stamped new financial fair play rules, agreed in principle in February and designed to limit wage inflation and cap permitted losses, from next season.

Hawk-Eye’s camera-based system will relay whether the ball has crossed the line to the referee via a watch, while images are set to be shown on television and potentially on big screens at stadia.

The financial constraints are thought to have been opposed by five clubs, with one abstention, and stipulate that teams with wage bills over £52m may only increase spend by £4m from a new TV windfall.
