Glencore pushes back merger completion date

MINING giant Glencore this morning extended the completion date for its £59bn merger with Xstrata as it waits for the green light from China.

Glencore, which has pushed back the merger date several times, said that it was in “constructive discussions” with China’s Ministry of Commerce, and the discussions were in their final stages.

The new completion date has been set for 2 May, from the previous date of 16 April.

Glencore has already received approval from European and South African regulators for the merger.
