German joblessness falls in June

GERMAN unemployment fell unexpectedly in June, according to new official data released today.

The number of people out of work in the Eurozone’s largest economy fell by 12,000 to 2.943 million in June.

Economists had expected an increase of 8,000 after a rise of 17,000 the previous month.

The unemployment rate remained close to its lowest level in decades, at 6.8 per cent.
