French unemployment rises to 1998 high

FRENCH unemployment rose to 10.8 per cent in the first quarter of 2013, its highest level since 1998.

The number of people out of work rose from 10.5 per cent in the last quarter of 2012, according to official data from the Insee statistics agency today.

France’s economy fell by 0.2 per cent in the first three months of the year, feeling the pinch from the Eurozone crisis.
