Freesat growth beats pay-TV

FREESAT, the free-of-charge satellite TV service, said yesterday that it had signed up 150,000 new customers in the last 12 months, a faster growth than Sky and Virgin Media combined.

The company, whose services are now used in 1.7m homes, said that more than half its new customers had switched from pay-TV providers, and the majority of those had come from Sky. The announcement came ahead of Sky’s first quarter results this morning, when analysts expect the company to reveal a significant slowdown in customer growth.
