Flying visit for Mellon comes to premature end

ENTREPRENEUR and fund manager Jim Mellon was in town yesterday, enjoying a long lunch at restaurateur Richard Caring’s Mayfair outpost Le Caprice before moving on to his own Notting Hill pub to see out the afternoon, having spent a sunny Sunday enjoying a spot of cricket with WPP boss Sir Martin Sorrell.

But it wasn’t all pleasure and no business for the author and biotech investor. Mellon was also in the City in his capacity as chairman of speciality pharmaceutical firm Plethora. The company, which hosted its AGM yesterday morning, produces a topical spray for the treatment of – let’s just say – unwanted hasty gratification. But not only did just one lone shareholder turn up to the meeting, when Mellon asked if there were any questions, she said nay.

“The whole thing was wrapped up in under a minute,” said Mellon. And as for the premature ending jokes?

Mellon assured The Capitalist there were several.
