Fisher clinches Open place

GOLF: London’s Oliver Fisher is set to make his Open debut next month after clinching a qualifying place yesterday at Sunningdale.
The 24-year-old from Chingford will be joined at Muirfield by fellow Brits Scott Jamieson, Richard McEvoy and Gareth Maybin, who also progressed. Ryder Cup captains Paul McGinley and Jose Maria Olazabal failed to qualify from the 36-hole event. Yorkshire’s John Parry, who finished tied for 28th in his maiden Major at the US Open this month, missed out in bizarre fashion, falling two shots short after a would-be hole in one bounced out of the cup and landed 20 feet away.
