Family’s 65 years of the white stuff

Milk was still sold in cans and delivered by horse and cart when Robert Wiseman set up his dairy in the new town of East Kilbride, near Glasgow, in 1947.

The group listed in London in 1994 and today the family business stretches from Keith in northern Scotland to Cornwall, processing and delivering more than 30 per cent of the milk consumed in Britain. Wiseman himself died in 2004 but his family have run the business – and will continue to be involved after the takeover deal has been completed.

Alan Wiseman resigned as chairman in July 2010 and his younger brother, Robert, took on the role of executive chairman. Gavin Wiseman, the other brother, is the dairy’s administration and purchasing director.
