SOFA maker DFS yesterday posted a 7.8 per cent rise in sales in the first nine months of the year, thanks to launching new products, stores and boosting its online service.

The furniture group said despite the tough economic climate, earnings rose 8.5 per cent to £48.3m in the period, on sales of £481.8m.

The Yorkshire group spent £2.5m in the period on its expansion, including opening eight new stores, taking its estate to 97 stores.
