Epsom offers the best of both worlds

It may be famous for Epsom salts and the world’s greatest racecourse but there’s a lot more to the Surrey town than that. The area has become a popular choice for those looking for a better quality of life outside the capital.

“Londoners who want to escape the hustle and bustle of inner city life and live in a relaxing countryside setting don’t have to move too far away. They can enjoy the best of town and country living in Epsom with London only a short journey away,” says Crest Nicholson sales and marketing director Christine Tiernan.

Despite its close proximity to London, house prices in the area are considerably lower and improved transport thanks, in part, to a recent £31 million redevelopment of its main station means that London Bridge, Victoria and Waterloo stations can be reached in under 40 minutes.

“Purchasers get more for their money than they can in London so it’s especially popular with people taking the second step on the property ladder and with young couples looking to start a family who need more space but who still need to be within an easy commute to London,” she adds.

Pockets of the area still show remnants of the spa town’s 18th century appearance, full of old pubs, cottages and Georgian houses, many with their original features still intact. The area also features several Victorian and Edwardian homes and has recently seen a surge of new properties pop up in response to increasing demand.

Already proving popular is Noble Park, a new development comprised of 360 new homes created by Crest Nicholson. First time buyers taking advantage of the Help to Buy scheme, a government-backed shared equity initiative, are quickly snapping up properties in the development. “The fantastic thing about the scheme is that it’s not just for first-time buyers, but can be utilised by existing home owners too. It’s a valuable incentive that can make a real difference to our customers by reducing the size of the mortgage required and making the repayments easier to afford,” says Tiernan. “Thanks to Help to Buy, those who thought they couldn’t afford to purchase a property at Noble Park will be pleasantly surprised that they now can; whether it’s a two-bedroom refurbished apartment or a four-bedroom house.”

Many first time buyers see it as a safe investment. “There is always demand for rental properties in the area and they like the fact that, being newly built, the properties have a 10 year NHBC warranty and are much lower maintenance for them than if they owned a second hand property.”

The site sits on an Edwardian hospital building surrounded by vast open green space and rolling Surrey countryside. It features 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom houses located close to the centre of Epsom and its range of superb shopping and top-performing schools. Derby Square has a great choice of pubs and bars, ideal for entertaining and the Ashley Centre is a hub for shoppers.

Prices start from £284,950 for a two-bedroom apartment and from £594,950 for a four-bedroom home. For more information or to book a viewing, call
