Energy prices jump in the EU

ENERGY prices increased across the European Union in the second half of last year, adding more pressure to the finances of people throughout the continent.

Households’ electricity prices rose by 6.6 per cent in July to December, compared to the same period in 2011.

And gas prices for European households were up 10.3 per cent annualised, according to data published yesterday in Brussels.

Gas prices were already up 12.6 per cent in the second half of 2011, compared to the same period in 2010.
