Energy price hikes lifts inflation to 2.8 per cent

CONSUMER price inflation ticked up to 2.8 per cent in February, marking the first rise in five months.

The index edged up from 2.7 per cent in January, driven by increases in gas and electricity bills as well as rises in petrol prices and air fares.

The Retail Price Index measure of inflation fell to 3.2 per cent in February, from 3.3 per cent the month previously.
