MODELZONE, the toy and model-maker retailer, yesterday appointed Deloitte as administrator after becoming the latest casualty on the high street.

The company, which first opened in Brighton in the 1930s, has suffered from fierce online competition and years of over expansion that has left it burdened by onerous leases.

Deloitte said it hopes to find a buyer for the business, which has 47 stores and a wholesale business which together employ 400 staff.

The collapse of Modelzone follows that of Dwell this week – with retailers such as Internacionale and Ark also in trouble – just days after the quarter rent bill was due.
