EasyJet soars on passenger rise

Low-cost carrier EasyJet was the biggest riser on the FTSE 100 yesterday, closing 3.6 per cent higher after announcing a 1.9 per cent increase in passenger numbers in June. The firm grew its traffic to 5.5m last month in spite of French air control strikes that prompted it to cancel almost 600 flights. In the year to the end of June, EasyJet carried 60.1m passengers – a rise of 4.9 per cent.
