DIXON SETS SAIL FOR A PLUSH NEW HABITAT

Tom Dixon, Habitat’s former head of design, has conjured up interiors for some of London’s swankiest hangouts including Shoreditch House, the Paramount Club at the top of Centre Point and Jamie Oliver’s Barbecoa restaurant at One New Change.

The British designer is now moving into uncharted waters: turning Sea Containers House on London’s South Bank – once home to Orient Express owner James Sherwood’s shipping and transport empire – into a 360-bed hotel.

The Capitalist has set a course for the West End this morning, where Morgans Hotel Group, the US operator behind London’s Sanderson and St Martins Lane hotels, will outline its vision for the new Mondrian-branded hotel.

Work on the 1970s building, which was originally designed to be a luxury hotel, will kick off in the next few months in time for its launch in 2014.
