Defoe treble keeps up flying start and sends Spurs to top

<strong>HULL (1)</strong> vs <strong>TOTTENHAM (5)</strong><br /><br />ENGLAND hero Jermain Defoe scored the first Premier League hat-trick of the season as Tottenham ensured there was no repeat of last season&rsquo;s horror start.<br /><br />Spurs bagged just two points from their first eight games of last season, but have enjoyed a storming start to this campaign by following up their superb win over Liverpool on Saturday with a 5-1 thrashing of Hull last night.<br /><br />Defoe began the season with a brace for England in their friendly against Holland last week, but went one better with an impressive treble at the KC Stadium which took Harry Redknapp&rsquo;s men to the top of the table.<br /><br />Defoe gave Spurs a deserved lead in the 10th minute from Tom Huddlestone&rsquo;s pass before midfielder Wilson Palacios burst through to smash his first goal in English football four minutes later.<br /><br />New signing Stephen Hunt bagged his second goal in as many games for the Tigers but Spurs, inspired by midfield duo Luka Modric and Huddlestone, consolidated their two-goal advantage just before the break when Defoe broke clear to score.<br /><br />Robbie Keane headed home a fourth on 78 minutes before Defoe completed his hat-trick in injury time to ensure Spurs began a new season with back-to-back league wins for the first time in 14 years.
