Data roaming charges reduced

Checking email or surfing the web on a mobile phone while travelling in the European Union will be a third cheaper from Monday under roaming cuts enforced by the EU’s watchdog in time for the summer holiday season. Neelie Kroes, the top European telecoms regulator, announced a 36 per cent reduction in the amount that mobile networks can charge for data access in other EU countries. Kroes plans to eradicate roaming fees in a year, but faces opposition from the networks.
