Cross-party press regulation deal reached

A DEAL has been reached between the three political parties on how to regulate the media, Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman said this morning.

It comes as the Conservatives, Lib Dems and Labour held crisis talks last night on how to implement the press reforms.

Harman said a charter – underpinned by statute – would be publishing this morning, and put before MPs.

The Leveson inquiry, which was set up in the wake of phone hacking, called for a new regulator backed by legislation.
